Alice Barbara Becker Smith, 98, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2015. Alice was born on August 19, 1916, in Newark, New Jersey to William Becker and Agnes Norkus Becker. She was a first generation American as her parents immigrated to this country from Germany and Lithuania respectively. Alice is predeceased by her parents, Agnes and William; brother, William; husband, Philip Leonard Smith, Jr.; stepson Philip Leonard Smith III; step-granddaughter Stephanie Smith Febick; and granddaughter Jenna Maria Smith. Alice is survived by her two sons: Harry Smith and wife Susan of Jonesboro, GA, and Benson Smith and wife Linda of Malvern, PA. Harry and Susan have three children: Zachary, Caroline and Preston all of the Atlanta area. Benson has four children: Jason and wife Rachael, Cameron and wife Carla, and Hayden, all of the Atlanta area; and Jordan and husband Ted of Tampa, FL. Alice also has four great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by step daughter-in-law Irene Smith of Madison, NJ. She has four step-grandchildren, eleven step great-grandchildren and one step great-great grandchild. Alice was a consummate mother and homemaker as well as a full time bookkeeper for her husband's wholesale meat business for more than 20 years in Montclair, New Jersey. Upon retirement, Alice and her husband, Philip Leonard Smith Jr., traveled to Florida and settled in Flagler Beach in the early 1970's. There they built a home and a new life. Alice was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, but stayed in Flagler Beach until 2013, when she moved to Jonesboro, GA to be closer to her family. Alice had an unwavering faith in God. She was a long-time member of Flagler Beach Community church, where she served as the church treasurer for over two decades. The family plans a memorial service at Flagler Beach Community Church, 915 South Daytona Avenue, Flagler Beach, FL 32136 at 11 AM on April 25, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church in her memory.
