IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice (Pelkey)
Gowett
March 19, 1926 – January 13, 2026
Alice (Pelkey) Gowett, of Port Orange, Florida, and formerly of Plattsburgh, New York, passed away peacefully at Collier's Sr. Living on January 13, 2026, at the age of 99.
Born in Champlain, New York, on March 19, 1926, Alice was the daughter of James and Alice Pelkey. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wallace Gowett, who passed away in 2023. She was also predeceased by three sisters: Mary (Ernest) Roberts, Ann (John) Mckough, and Rita (Donald) Wray.
Alice was active in her church throughout her younger life. Later she began working at Ayers Laboratory, where she ultimately became a team leader. She married Wallace in 1963. They enjoyed spending weekends visiting friends and family, camping, and maintaining their home in Plattsburgh. Upon retiring, Alice and Wally moved to Port Orange, where they lived for nearly 40 years. They continued their active social life, enjoying the beach and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Alice is survived by her sister, Patricia (Henry) Davison of Peru, New York. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and their families, on both her and her husband Wallace's sides. Wallace's great-niece, Pam Hamel, who lives in Florida, was a great comfort to Alice. Pam visited Alice often, especially since most of the rest of the family resides in the North.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the Halifax Hospice Team and Collier's Sr. Living (formerly Wickshire Sr. Living) for the loving care provided to Alice.
A celebration of Alice's life will be held in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alice's memory to Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129-9626.
