We are sorry to announce that on August 9, 2025, at the age of 83, Arthur L. Hawes of Lubbock, Texas, passed away after a long illness. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

Upon graduating from Seabreeze High School, he served in the US Air Force, returning to Daytona Beach, Florida, to become an electrician with Ray Smith Electric. Years later, his work led him to Lubbock, Texas and he truly felt at home. He worked for the Lubbock Avalanche Journal until he retired. He enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, bowling, shuffleboard and horseshoes, but his passion was cars and all things electro-mechanical, and he had an excellent sense of humor.

He was predeceased by his wife of 26 years, Shirley (Odom) Hawes; his parents, Vincent M. Hawes and Harriet E. (Finkle) Hawes of Daytona Beach, Florida; and brother, John. He is survived by his two daughters and their families, Terri Miller and Tracie Lyman, of Ormond Beach, Florida; and two brothers, Howard Hawes & family of Bunnell, Florida, and Raymond Hawes & family of Springfield, Virginia. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren.
