Obituary

Betty Ruth Duncan Luznar, 90, passed peacefully January 29, 2020 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Betty was born to Flake and Gertrude Duncan in 1929 in Bel Air, Maryland. As one of six children, she attended Bel Air High School, and was active at Oak Grove Baptist Church. While in high school, she volunteered at the Maryland State Department of Health and subsequently met and married her spouse of 47 years, Edward James Luznar. They moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1952 where they raised seven children. One of Betty's greatest achievements was returning to school to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a nurse. She worked at Halifax Hospital Medical Center for 13 years. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach where she met many of her lifelong friends. Betty loved to travel, camp with family, and her favorite hobby was painting ceramics. Many summers and falls were spent in western North Carolina at their log home near Brevard, North Carolina. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, son Gary Flake Luznar, parents Flake and Gertrude Duncan, as well as her sisters, Peggy Grogan, Virginia Wiles, and Mary Podkul, and brothers Jay Duncan and Rev. Thomas Duncan. Betty is survived by daughters Karen (Thomas) Allen of Tampa, Florida, Betsy (David) Draper of Boston, Massachusetts, and Cheryl (Dan) Bennett of Seattle, Washington, and her sons Edward (Cynthia) Luznar, Jr., of Arlington, Texas, Timothy (Justin) Luznar, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and William (Pamela) Luznar of Flower Mound, Texas. Betty was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation hours are Friday, February 7 from 5-7 PM at Cardwell Baggett Summers Funeral Home, 301 Big Tree Rd., South Daytona, FL 32119 (Tel: 386-767-0120). Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8 at 11 AM at First Baptist Church, 10 First Baptist Parkway, Daytona Beach, FL 32124, with a brief graveside service to follow at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery. Betty requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Missions Fund or Building Fund at First Baptist Church Daytona Beach, Florida.
