John Leland Dietemann was born in the home build by his father on May 11, 1924 in Kiowa, Colorado to John Edward and Estelle Francis (Wright) Dietemann. As a boy, John lived in a small town and on a farm, attending a one room school house thru the 7th grade. After leaving the ranch and the sudden advent of his mother's terminal illness his family moved to Denver. John completed his education as World War II began. In 1943, he entered the U.S. Coast Guard and served until 1946. He then attended the University of Denver. He was recalled into the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and after his release, he returned to the University of Denver where he earned his degree in Environmental Health and was employed by the City of Denver in Environmental Health for 13 years. In 1957 John was introduced to his beloved, Eleanore, and in 1958 they were married. They moved to Michigan and John earned his Master's degree from the University of Michigan. After graduation he returned to Denver and joined the U.S. Public Health Service. While in the Public Health Service, he served in Washington D.C., the Fort Apache Indian Reservation in Whiteriver, Arizona, as well as other interesting assignments including Sioux City, Iowa, Aberdeen, South Dakota and Anchorage, Alaska. After four years in the far North, John was assigned to Washington, D.C. where he worked in the HIS Headquarters. John retired in 1987, and he and Eleanore moved to Daytona Beach where they purchased a home and became a part of the Florida Community.
