IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles
Wright
June 29, 1950 – July 12, 2018
Charlie Wright was born June 29, 1950, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Charlie passed away at age 68 on July 12, 2018, in Port Orange, FL. Charlie grew up in Ft. Lauderdale with his older brother Bob. He began his working life as a motorcycle mechanic in south Florida, working on Harley-Davidson bikes. In 1977 he moved to central Florida and started a long career in the boat industry with Atlantic Boats in St. Augustine, then Hunter Marine in Alachua. While living in Alachua, Charlie met his wife, Marie Hartman. In 1981, they moved to Daytona Beach. Charlie built and repaired boats for local marine businesses (Watercraft and Kona in Oak Hill, Sea Ray in Palm Coast, and Daytona Marina & Boat Works). In 1990, he launched his own very successful business, Sea Wright Boat Repair. Charlie was a skilled and creative craftsman who took pride in every job he performed. One of his proudest achievements was restoring a 1956 Lyman Runabout. "The 56" won "Best Lyman Award" at the Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival in Mt. Dora in 2010, and first place awards three years running 2011-13 at the local Antique Boat Show in Ponce Inlet. In addition to building and repairing boats, Charlie was an avid sailor, including racing and instructing. He was an active member of the Halifax Sailing Association for 20 years, and in 1990 was a founding member of the Sailing Center, Inc., in Daytona Beach. He loved working with and teaching kids. During his career with the Sailing Center he taught dozens of kids and adults how to sail in camps and classes. Charlie retired in 2010, but in typical fashion refused to sit still. He continued building and repairing anything that arrived in his garage, which was equipped with every tool ever invented. He revived his interest in motorcycles, bought a Harley, and enjoyed working on it and riding around town and on short runs. Charlie is survived by his wife, Marie Hartman, Brother Bob (Diane), sons Robert Wright (Michele), Travis Wright (Tauna), daughter Shawna Jolley (Ben), and grandchildren Charlie Wright and Emma, Zoey, and Jacob Jolley. He also leaves behind his dog, Reese, in the care of his brother Bob. A gathering of family & friends will be held at Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Ave., Sunday, July 22 nd starting at 2 pm with the Service to follow at 4 pm . Condolences may be shared with the family thru the online guestbook at www.LohmanFuneralHomes.com
