David Eugene Irons, 84, of Wauchula, Florida (formerly of Port Orange, Florida)
died January 1, 2024, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, Florida.
David was born in Poughkeepsie, New York and grew up nearby in Staatsburg,
New York. He joined the US Navy at age 17 and served 20 years before retiring in
1975 as a CPO. He loved serving in the Navy and said his proudest moment was
earning his Dolphins and serving on submarines as a radioman. Following
retirement, his adventures continued as he sailed the Caribbean and enjoyed
many years of RVing across the US and Canada.
David was a member of the New Smyrna Beach Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.
He belonged to the American Legion in Avon Park. He was also a member of the
Escapees RV Club and enjoyed many years of camping with the Florida Escapees
Chapter 57.
David was preceded in death by his parents, William Eugene Irons and Daisy Viola
Irons, brother Robert William Irons of Staatsburg, New York. Shortly after David's
death in January, his sister Marge Orlich, of Murphy, North Carolina passed away.
He is survived by his loving wife Rose of Wauchula, Florida.
Three children: Susan Boulton (Richard) of Ebeemee Township, Maine. David
Irons, Jr (Sharron) of DeLand, Florida. Christine Desy of Edgewater, Florida.
Grandchildren: Christopher Peterson, Emily Gmitter, Justin Desy, and Olivia Desy.
Nephews: Jody Tenbrock, Gary Tenbrock and niece Jo Kilmer.
Stepchildren and step grandchildren: Kim Driver (Kyle, Andrew, Braden and Cayla)

A Celebration of Life will be held at the SKP Resort 2219 SKP Way Wauchula,
Florida on March 2, 2024, from 2-5 PM. A private interment will be at the
Sarasota National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in
David's honor (www.lls.org)
