Dovie (Debbie) R. Huffman, 74, went to meet our Lord on September 24, 2016, surrounded by her husband and Florida Hospital Nursing Staff. Debbie was born on November 11, 1941 in Corbin, KY. She was an incredible wife, mother, sister, grandma and great grandma. She had so many close friends and words can't describe her way of making friends and some she considered family. Debbie loved cooking for the family, especially on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her cooking specialty was peach cobbler.
She always had to know each night that her kids were safe from harm before she would go to sleep. Debbie and her surviving husband, Don, met in Glendale, AZ and got married on November 18, 1968. She has three surviving children, Charles, Daphne and Allen. Charles resides with Donna Ibanez of California, Daphne is married to Floyd Sheets of New Jersey, and all live in Port Orange. She loved Donnie Ray, Jr. and Cynthia Ann, Don's kids of Tennessee. Getting the family together to sing songs of praise was one great joy. Debbie has one surviving sister and two brothers. Shirley is married to Joe Partin and lives in London, KY. Brother Wayne Shelton is married to Sally and resides in Buckeye, AZ. Brother Jerry Shelton is married to Connie and lives in Gilbert, AZ. Debbie was a Christian and raised in a Christian Home, by her Mom, Gladys and Dad, Herbert Shelton, both are deceased. She was an avid fan of Gospel and good old country music, but Elvis was her idol. Debbie retired from Sperry Corp. in 1984 as a supervisor and union leader. In 1993 she and Don, a retired US Air Force Veteran, moved to Port Orange, FL. Debbie is also survived by 10 grandkids, 3 great grandkids, 4 nephews and 7 nieces. Her kind words and smiling face will never be forgotten and will remain in the minds and hearts of so many people. We were surely blessed that God loaned her to us for awhile. She would do anything for her husband, family and friends asking nothing in return. She could light up a dark room with her pretty brown eyes and smiling face. Even when she was in pain, she would smile and say "everything is ok, don't worry about me." Now she is a shining star in Heaven and with "Mom" Shelton" smiling at her loved ones down here. She would also want to thank here neighbors and acquaintances for their love and support for her husband, Don and her kids during these times. Her hobby was collecting angel pictures and figurines, now she is joining God's Angel Band.
Friends may pay their respect for Debbie on Friday September 30, 2016 in the Cardwell, Baggett & Summers Chapel 10 AM until service time at 11AM. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Port Orange, FL. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.CardwellFuneral.com. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Cardwell, Baggett & Summers Funeral Home and Crematory.
