November 11, 1926 – April 15, 2022
Donald Bird of Ormond Beach, Fl. and previously Highland Heights, Ohio., passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 15 2022, at the age of 95.
Don, the son of the late Arthur and Gertrude Bird, grew up in Lyndhurst Ohio. He attended Brush High School and upon graduation enlisted in the Navy in order to join the battle of WWII. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Don married his lifelong partner of 75 years, Lois Warren, in June of 1947.
After graduation from Albion College and obtaining a Masters Degree From Case Western Reserve, Don dedicated himself to the education of young children.
As a teacher and principal in the South Euclid Lyndhurst School System, Don was involved in elementary education for over 30 years.
Don had a passion for travel. He and Lois traveled the globe to places such as Egypt and Thailand. In their travel trailer, they visited all 49 contiguous states. In addition, Don and Lois experienced many Cruises together.
Don was a prolific wood worker. He hand crafted many pieces of furniture including a grandfather clock for each of his children. Don also loved boating and fishing and actually built his own boat. He was a handyman extraordinaire.
Donald is survived by his wife of 75 years Lois(Warren) Bird, his children David( Sue) Bird, Susan(George) Moyer, Thomas(Debbie) Bird and Joan Hofmann. Don and Lois have 7 Grandchildren: Jason ,Jonathon, Jeffrey Bird ,Scott Moyer, Katie( Moyer ) Miller, Michael and Joshua Hofmann. In addition they have been blessed with 10 wonderful Great Grandchildren.
A service of Remembrance and Inurnment will be celebrated on Saturday April 23rd at 1PM at the Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church, 1035 Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach ,FL 32174
In Lieu of Flowers,contributions may be made in memory to Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbridge Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129, Attn: Fund Development
