IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Earl D.
Davis
February 23, 1925 – September 1, 2018
Earl D. Davis. age 93 of Ponce Inlet, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Care Center in Port Orange on Sept. 1, 2018.
He was born in Savannah, GA to Lula and Luther Davis. He was preceded by his brother Watson Davis and sister Freda King. Earl was raised in the small town of Bloomingdale, GA. At age 18 he joined the Navy and served during WW 1. He then attended Stetson University where he was an active member of SIGMA PHI EPSILON Florida Beta Chapter. After graduating he went to work for Florida Power and Light Company in Daytona Beach. Soon after, Earl's love of fishing took him to Ponce Inlet where he met the love of his life Gladys, at her family business, Chief Meyer's Fishing Camp and Restaurant.
He is survived by his wife Gladys of 63 years, daughter Julia Davis of Ponce Inlet and Ellen Davis of Port St. Lucie. Also a niece, Dana Fischer of Port Orange.
After Earl's retirement, he became a member of the Board of Trustees at the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Association. He was also a volunteer at the Lighthouse for 32 years. He loved telling stories to the visitors about the history of Ponce Inlet and the Lighthouse, especially since his wife Gladys was born at the Lighthouse. He was also a member of Grace Episcopal Church for over 50 years.
There will be a service celebrating his life on Sept. 8, at 2pm in the Chapel at Grace Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Endowment Fund or Halifax Health - Hospice.
Condolences and Memories are welcome to be shared with the family VIA this online guest book.
