Edith Clement Newbern, 93, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2014. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 4:00 P.M at Cardwell Baggett and Summers Funeral Home, 3571 S. Ridgewood Ave, Port Orange, FL 32129. Viewing will begin at 3:00 P.M. Mrs. Newbern was born on September 2, 1920 in Kirkland, Georgia to Will E. and Amanda R. Clement. She moved to the Daytona Beach area with her husband and sons in 1950. Edith was an employee of Sears for many years, and she especially enjoyed attending the retirees' luncheons with her former co-workers. Edith was a member of First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, actively participating in her Sunday School classes and church ministries. Above all, Edith was devoted to her family. She loved organizing the annual reunion for her extended family, strengthening the family ties across the generations. Edith was most devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she was always ready for a visit from them with a southern meal and an ice box full of treats. Edith is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Lonnie, her son Edward; 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are her son Albert Newbern; grandchildren, Laurel (Jay) Sonnenklar, Lisa Newbern (James Brown), and Thomas (Carrie) Newbern; 6 great-grandchildren, Jared and Jordan Sonnenklar, Marissa and Griffin Brown, Carter and Carsen Newbern; and many devoted nieces and nephews.
