Ed (Edmund) Murphy, 92, of Port Orange, FL, 6/23/1924 - 08/28/2016
Born in Somerville, MA Ed was a member of the greatest generation. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy as an aircraft mechanic in the South Pacific aboard the USS Yorktown. Upon returning home, he attended Boston College, and with his knowledge of machines spent many years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in both testing and teaching aircraft trigonometry and geometry, and then went to work for DeLaval Turbine and Terry Steam Turbine which took him around the world. With this knowledge he also worked on cars from the 1940's until the 1980's and then started to work on restoring a 1969 Mustang Fastback.
He leaves behind 5 children and spouses: James Murphy (Jane) of East Hartford, CT, Ann Murphy Dubiel (Robert) of South Windsor, CT, John Murphy (Debi) of Lebanon, CT, Carol Murphy Ballentine (Harold) of Port Orange, FL and Susan Murphy Godburn (Ken) of Walkill, NY. He is also survived by his sister Katherine (Kay) Shamon and her husband, John, of Stoneham, MA along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of his life will take place at a future date.
