Edward J. Harvey
Edward James Harvey, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2017 after a valiant struggle with Alzheimer's disease. The son of Charles Oliver (C O.) Harvey and Evelyn Neidig Harvey, he was born in Yonkers, New York. He was very proud to have been loved by his maternal grandparents who were caretakers of Trevor Mansion at Trevor Park in Yonkers. He was an avid Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
Upon graduating from Gorton High School in Yonkers, Edward enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to St. Bonaventure's College for special officers training. As World War II was coming to an end, he was sent to Korea to help restore order there. When he came home, he married a high school classmate, Jean Skinner. They were married almost 65 years, until her death in 2012. They had three children: Carol Johnson Harmon; Edward James Harvey, Jr. and Janis Harvey Yuskaitis; and eight grandchildren: Erik N. Johnson, Aaron M. Straub, Charles M. L. Johnson; Samuel E. Straub, Christopher J. Yuskaitis, Adrienne Harvey Riddle, Brian Harvey and Max Harvey as well as thirteen great grandchildren.
In 1950 Edward was called back to active duty and again served in Korea. When he returned, he began his sales career working for General Cable. He was very civic minded, serving as a Boy Scout leader, an elected town official and Elder of his church. He retired from General Cable after 35 years and went on to start a very successful manufacturer rep & warehousing business in Bridgeton, New Jersey called Harvey & Associates.
In retirement, Edward loved to spend time with his family, go deep sea fishing, see the world with his wife on long cruises, work on his golf game, and enjoy ballroom dancing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, ALZ.org.
