Edward Emmett Ronan, Jr. passed away at the Advent Hospice House in Palm Coast, Florida on October 14, 2022 after losing his battle with lung cancer. He had been a resident of Palm Coast for the past thirty years and leaves his wife Alberta, his son Brian, two grandsons Kyle & Edward, and three great grandchildren. He was born in Rockville, Connecticut on April 18, 1927, the son of Edward and Hazel Ronan.
Edward left high school after one year to work at Bradley Field in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and served on a destroyer escort as a signalman in the South Pacific. He was discharged in 1946 and in March of 1946, he was married and completed his remaining three years of high school in one year. He then attended the University of Connecticut, graduating in 1953.
After graduating from college, he was employed by Western Union as an Engineering Apprentice to learn the workings of the company from the ground up. He worked in New York City, Houston, New Orleans, Dallas, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver and Boston, then as District Operations, then Project Manager of Wescall.
He loved everything about flying and in the summer of 1984, he took flying lessons at the Old Bridge Airport in New Jersey. He was able to solo but did not pursue flying further. After retirement from Western Union he became a real estate agent with Showcase of Homes in South River, then with Weichert Realtors in Aberdeen, New Jersey.
