IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evlyn E
Janis
April 6, 1934 – June 26, 2021
Evlyn E. Janis died unexpectedly following complications from surgery on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Evlyn was born April 6, 1934 to O.H. "Curly" and Evangeline Temple Ochs in Fond du Lac, WI. She gave birth to 3 sons, raising them in Fond du Lac with her husband Kenneth H. Millar, Sr. She worked at Ivy/Dillard's department store in the Volusia Mall in Daytona Beach, FL for over 20 years. Co-worker Judy Boyd was on staff at Ivy/Dillard's when Evlyn started
her career there, and that work relationship led to a special friendship that lasted decades!
An accomplished artist, Evlyn belonged to the Art Guild of Ponce Inlet. Her paintings were frequently displayed in local banks.
She shared her art work with many people and especially enjoyed painting the back drop scenery for VBS at her church, Grace Episcopal. Most fulfilling to her though, was teaching her grandchildren art lessons.
Another passion Evlyn enjoyed was singing. She sang in the St. Mary's Episcopal Church choir for many years. She
also was a member of Daughters of the King and formerly belonged to Daughters of the American Revolution. She so enjoyed her family, local and church friends, her neighbors, walks around her home and at the beach, as well as a daily dose of swimming.
On October 6, 2001 she married Philip J. Janis. They enjoyed Friday night fish dinners, dancing, and St. Augustine, FL.
Survivors include 2 sons: Paul (Elizabeth) Millar of Port Orange, FL and Harv (Shirley) Millar of Oshkosh, WI.
Evlyn also leaves behind her sister Kay E. Franke of Groton, CT and her brother Peter R. (Kathleen) Ochs of Eldorado, WI., along with numerous grandchildren
and great-grandchildren of whom she was affectionately known as Granny. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers Carroll J. Ochs and Clarence R. Ochs, son Kenneth
H. Millar, Jr. and grandson Robert S. Millar.
Her sons would like to thank the floor nurses, P-T professionals, respiratory therapists, and CNA personnel of the 6th floor of the France Tower at Halifax Hospital for the special care their Mom received during her stay.
They would also like to express their appreciation to the caring nursing staff at Halifax Hospice Port Orange, FL for the comfort she received during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation in Evlyn's name to: Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL. 32129.
