Obituary

Floyd E. Metts, 90, of New Smyrna Bch was at home surrounded by his family as he peacefully went to be with the Lord on December 7, 2016. He was born February 24, 1926 in Daytona Beach, FL. He was a longtime resident of Port Orange and often referred to himself as one of the "Oldtimers". He joined the Navy after high school and served in WWII as an Aviation Machinist's Mate Second Class. After a Honorable Discharge he returned home where he spent the next 38 yrs in the Grocery business as the owner Floyd's Thriftway. After retiring, he and Connie purchased some land in the country which he named the "Silver Coin Ranch", with his love of horses. He combined his love for boating and the river and became a Commercial Crabber for many years after his retirement. He was an avid NASCAR fan and he had a passion for fishing and gardening. He was a kind-hearted man that will truly be missed. He was a long time member of Spruce Creek Baptist Church also a member of the American Legion and the Lion's Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Metts. He is survived by his sons, Michael(Lisa), Chris(Anita), and Mark, 3 grandchildren, Shane Metts, Stacy, Metts-Meck and Shelley Metts-Sigafoes, 6 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. Arrangements are under the direction of Cardwell, Baggett and Summers Funeral Home, South Daytona, FL. In Leu of flowers, donation can be made to Hospice.
