Obituary

George W. Britton, Jr., 99, passed away at his home in Daytona Beach on March 30, 2013. He was born in Brockway, PA in 1913. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1935. He served his country in the US Army during WW II, and was stationed in Alaska. In 1949 he married Virginia Vollmer to whom he was married for 64 wonderful years. He was self-employed as a Manufacturer's Representative in the building industry. In 1980 he and Virginia relocated to Daytona Beach. Upon retirement, George began a rich and varied career as a volunteer for many local organizations. In 1987 he was recognized for his outstanding representation of children in judicial proceedings by the Guardian Ad Litem Program of Daytona Beach. He was a relentless worker, always looking for his next project. He enjoyed traveling the world, having made many trips with Virginia with Elder Hostel and his last trip with his son Bob to Newfoundland in 2005. He is survived by his wife Virginia, his sons Thomas Britton (Tucson, AZ) and Robert Britton ( New Hartford, Ct), and daughter Mary (Lisa) Halloran( Raleigh, NC.), 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all the caretakers from Granny Nannies and Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler who steadfastly tended to all of George's needs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Way of Volusia and Flagler Counties or Halifax Health Hospice. A celebration of George's life will be held at Cardwell Funeral Home, 3571 S. Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange, FL 32129 on Thursday, April 4, at 11am, with refreshments to follow. Condolences may be shared with the family at .
