CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR JAY BRIGHT DICKINSON

April 24, 2021 at 1:00 PM

190 N. Cucumber Lane

New Smyrna Beach, FL  32168

Jay Bright Dickinson of New Smyrna Beach, FL, passed away suddenly on March 13th, 2021. He was born on December 24th, 1950, at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, to the late Jasper and Doris Dickinson. Jay graduated from Mainland High School in 1968, then attended DBCC, earning a degree in Building Construction. Upon graduation, he worked for the engineering firm of Russel & Axon. Jay became a Building Contractor in 1976, running his own successful business, Dickinson Construction Co., Inc., for over 40 years. Throughout his career, he built over 500 homes in Volusia, Flagler & Marion Counties, and worked on several commercial projects throughout the Halifax area. He was an excellent Draftsman and designed his own homes. Jay loved the outdoors, spending much of his youth surfing. He lived an adventurous life, racing, skiing and riding horses. He was an avid boater, loved animals and learned to fly. At other times, you might find him relaxing in front of a James Bond film or listening to country music, his favourite being The Allman Brothers. In 1966, Jay's father bought him his first Harley Davidson, opening the door to his lifetime love of motorcycles. After the iconic Victory Motorcycles company closed their doors, Jay continued to work on and sell their brand of bikes, to keep the Victory name and spirit alive. After retiring, he spent the remainder of his life customizing cars and motorcycles.  On September 10th, 1983, Jay married Janette Arrigo. He lived for his beloved wife and family. Jay is survived by his wife, Jan Dickinson, his sisters, Julia Laughlin and Joyce Phillips, his brother John Dickinson, his son Mark Dickinson, his stepchildren Cari Ann Menshenfriend and Thomas Menshenfriend and five grandchildren.  He had several nieces and nephews and maintained a particularly close and special relationship with his niece, Ashley. Jay was preceded in death by his sisters Dolores Bullard and Jane Dickinson. On the same afternoon of Jay's Celebration of Life, many of Jay's motorcycle buddies will be departing New Smyrna Beach for a final farewell ride in Jay's memory. You are all welcome to join in. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked, because of Jay's love for children, that you to donate to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
