JoAnne Malarney Millaire Kean, born June 23, 1951 at Fish Hospital in Deland, Florida, died peacefully at home on December 20, 2019 surrounded by her beloved family and Sammie her therapy dog after a courageous battle with glioblastoma.
Jo was preceded in death by her mother Virginia (2010), father John (1977), and sister Nancy (2004). She is survived by her loving husband Dwight Kean who has been her soulmate for 26 years and caretaker for the past 9 months. Survivors include her son Jeff Millaire (Anne, Melia JoAnne, Taj), daughter Jennifer Cannon (Christian, Emersyn Claire), her siblings Lyn Carter (Port Orange), John Malarney, and Pattie Malarney (Tallahassee). Nephews Steven Robert Bacom Jr. (Joanne and Felecia), Dean Gargiulo (Cyndi), Mario Gargiulo
(Sossity) and niece Susan Arline (Carl, Matthew) and Gina Gist. Additional survivors include her step daughter Mindy Morris, step son Dustin Kean, previous husband Ed Millaire and many cousins, great great nieces' friends and colleagues.
JoAnne was a life-long resident of Daytona Beach. In most recent years and since retirement she enjoyed spending time with her three beautiful grandchildren, Melia, Taj and Emersyn. Other passions included family gatherings, spending time with her friends, gardening, reading, and the beach. She was an advocate for saving our World's Most Famous Beach and joined SONS of the Beach to promote beach preservation. She was involved in the local Democratic Party and was ecstatic to hear results of the recent impeachment hearings.
Jo graduated from Father Lopez High School in 1969, attended DBCC and graduated from UCF in 1975 with a Bachelor's in Education degree. Jo's 36-year career paralleled those of her sister and mother as an educator in the Volusia County School System. She retired in 2012. Her fondest memories and "teacher stories" are from the many years that she taught 3 rd and 5 th grade at Holly Hill Elementary and 6 th grade Math and Social Studies at Silver Sands and Creekside Middle Schools.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday January 11, 2020. at Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, Florida. The family will receive friends from 11 am – 1 pm and the memorial service will be held from 1-2 pm. An extended obituary can be found at www.cardwellfuneral.com .

The family would like to extend a sincere appreciation to the medical staff and Halifax Health Hospice and all of her dear friends (BFF's) for their prayers, care and comfort during this difficult 9-month journey.
