IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Edmond
Bennett, Jr.
August 28, 1941 – November 6, 2022
John Edmond Bennett Jr. , 81, of South Daytona, Florida, entered into God's kingdom on November 6th, 2022. He was born August 28 th , 1941 to Remmie Mae and John E. Bennett Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Virginia (Flagg) Bennett, daughter Kathy (Ron) Rebholz, sons Michael (Cait) Bennett and John (Ginger) Bennett as well as his brother, Liston Bennett, sisters, Ouida O'Neal, and Ruth Ann (Al) Korn. He also leaves 8 grandchildren: Matthew and Megan Billiter; Christina, Isabella, Sophia and Roman Bennett; and Taylor and Emma Bennett.
John was born in Live Oak, Florida and was raised on a farm in Hahira, Georgia. He graduated in 1960 from Hahira High School in Hahira, Georgia, where he was a member of Future Farmers of America. Shortly after graduation, John moved with his parents and younger sister to South Daytona, Florida. John provided for his elderly parents, himself, and his younger sister by working any laborious jobs he could find, never turning down an opportunity to provide for his family.
In 1966 he married Virginia Flagg and they had 3 children: Kathy, Michael, and John. He began his own construction company, Bennett Brothers Construction Company in 1977, and quickly established himself as one of the preeminent builders of residential homes in Volusia County. A Bennett Brothers Construction home was synonymous with high quality and craftsmanship. Knowing his family name was attached to it, he would accept nothing less. John had the personality and easy going charm to make friends no matter the situation, and his laugh was infectious to everyone around him.
As a man of true grit and integrity, John always honored his word and was never known to tell a lie. A man who appreciated the simple things in life, he focused on providing his children with the best life possible without worrying about himself. John Bennett was a wonderful father who taught us to be honest and kind, to have integrity, to try our best and take pride in everything we do. From his example we learned to never take for granted our loved ones or the precious times we shared together.
John was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family who love him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever engrained in all he knew. He was truly was the master of grand adventures, king of shared memories and our very own protector and friend.
