IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Johnny Ray
Redding
September 23, 1944 – December 16, 2024
Johnny Ray Redding, Sr. born on September 23, 1944, in Forsyth County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, at his home in Daytona Beach, Florida. He is predeceased by his parents Viola Mae Norman and Walter Daniel Redding, his son Johnny Redding, Jr and his sister Patricia Ann Redding.
Johnny found joy in life's simple pleasures and embraced a passion for collecting. He took pride in amassing bicycles, coins, watches, jewelry, and newspapers. An avid fisherman and bicyclist, he often found peace and fulfillment in these pursuits. A dedicated reader, Johnny cherished his daily routine of reading the newspaper to stay informed about the world. On sunny days, he could frequently be seen riding his scooter to Beach Street Park to enjoy the fresh air and serene surroundings.
Though distanced from his immediate family for many years, Johnny cultivated a close-knit community of friends and neighbors. Known for his kind and gentle nature he left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His giving spirit was evident in acts such as helping sponsor the Casa San Pablo community Thanksgiving Dinner—a reflection of his compassionate heart.
Johnny shared a lifelong bond with his dear friend Patricia Sholes and found comfort in the companionship of his beloved cat Missy. Their presence brought him joy and peace in his final days.
Special gratitude is extended to the staff of Casa San Pablo Apartments for ensuring Johnny's home was safe and comfortable during his later years. Heartfelt thanks also go to the Volusia County Council on Aging—especially his Home Health Aide Roberta Gilmarti—for her compassionate service and loving care.
Johnny will be fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched with his warmth and generosity. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
