Joseph Edward Thornton, born March 30, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio, passed peacefully March 31, 2021 in Port Orange, Florida.

Joe was a real family man. He loved his family no matter what. Through good times and bad, he would always be there. He proudly served his country as an enlistee in the U.S  Army, and spent many years in the automotive repair industry. Joe loved to be outdoors, whether fishing, boating, or searching for treasure with his metal detector, he was happy and relaxed. He also had a passion for  collecting coins which also gave him a sense of calm.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents Robert & Loretta (Maurer) Thornton, 1 brother Robert, 4 sisters Loretta, Lois, Elizabeth, & Mary. He has also joined his 3 sons Joseph, Doug and Robert and their mother Irene Kyser.

Joe is survived by his children Irene, Paul (with Irene Kyser) and 5 children with ex wife Cathy Hilyard, Jessica, Joe, Samantha, Wayne and Joshua.  As well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial service is yet to be determined, but those who wish may leave condolences with his family here on our website.
