Julia Citrullo (DiBattista), 98 years of age, passed away peacefully, with her daughter by her side, on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, two days shy of her 99th birthday.
Julia was born February 4, 1923, in Castel Frentano, a town in the Province of Chieti, in the Abruzzo region of Italy, to the late Domenic and Adelina DiBattista. She immigrated to the United States when she was 13 years old and lived with her parents in Minersville, PA. She was the third of four children, all preceding her in death, two at an early age, and her sister Iola McCormick (DiBattista) in 1996.
Julia married Albert Joesph Citrullo in 1947 and they had 6 children together throughout their life. After leaving Minersville, PA in 1950, they moved to North Syracuse, NY, and then briefly to Huntsville, Alabama in 1963, before moving to the Daytona area in 1965 and settling in South Daytona at 909 Duncan Road in March of 1966.
She spent her younger years caring for her family as well as hundreds of foster children, as she served as a foster parent for many years. Later in life she became a nursing assistant where she enjoyed caring for the elderly.
Julia was a devout catholic and was a longtime loyal member of the Church of the Epiphany in Port Orange, FL.
She is preceded in death by her son Anthony John, her loving husband, her parents, and her siblings.
She is survived by her son Ralph (Jeannie), son Albert D. (Lorri), son Dominick, daughter Adele (Howard), and son John (Erin); 5 grandchildren Joseph (Amy), Julie (Chad), Shaina, Alex, and Emily; 5 great-grandchildren Delia (Brian), Anthony, Sophia, Jalyn, and Angelo; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 3pm to 7pm, with a prayer vigil at 4pm at Cardwell, Baggett & Summers Funeral Home, 301 Big Tree Road, Daytona, FL 32114.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1pm on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at The Church of the Epiphany, 201 Lafayette Street, Port Orange 32127, followed by a graveside Rite of Committal at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery, 1425 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
Donations can be made in Julia's name to Our Catholic Appeal, The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida thru the Church of the Epiphany or the charity of your choice.
