IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julia
Woods
September 1, 1935 – August 24, 2021
Julia Woods
September 1, 1935 - August 24, 2021
Julie (Lawson) Woods, 85, loving and devoted mother, wife, and grandmother, passed away on August 24, 2021, in Port Orange, Florida. Julie was born on September 1, 1935, to Mabel and Charles Lawson in Jamestown, NY. In 1953 she graduated from Southwestern Central High School in Jamestown. She went to work for Crescent Tool Company, and it was there that she met James Woods, the man she would marry. He worked for Western Union, and they would chat over the telex machine. A romance grew and Julie and James were married on January 7, 1956. Soon thereafter they moved to Phoenix, NY and eventually Norfolk, MA where they raised their two sons, David and Jeffrey.
In 1995 Julie and James retired to Port Orange and became active members of the First United Methodist Church. Julie, a lifelong quilter, went on to lead the Love in Stitches quilting group as its President.
Through Love in Stitches, a devoted group that would sew more than 300 quilts a year which were donated to children in crisis, veterans in nursing homes, and others in need, Julie taught people in the community the joy of quilting. At any time, a visit to Julie's home would always reveal several quilts in various stages of completion. When not quilting, Julie could be found birding, crafting, and enjoying her cats. Her pleasant personality and kindness were contagious to everyone she met. Julie will be missed by all who were touched by her throughout her life.
Julie was the beloved mother of David, of Norton, MA and his spouse Myra, grandmother to Andrew, James and Daniel, great grandmother to Avacyn, James and Christopher, and former mother-in-law to Deb Woods.
Julie is predeceased by her devoted husband James, brother Jonathan Lawson and her loving son Jeffrey.
Memorial Services and Interment at Parrish Run Cemetery, Marion County, West Virginia will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Julie's name to Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL, 32129.
The care of Julia Woods has been entrusted to Cardwell, Baggett & Summers Funeral Home.
Condolences for the family can be shared on the online guestbook at www.cardwellfuneral.com
