Obituary

It was on May 19 th , 1960 that a bouncing baby boy was born to the late Vernon and Shirley Wilkinson in Nassau, Bahamas. They named their second son Kevin Vernon Wilkinson. Vernon and Shirley Wilkinson were blessed with a total of six children, Jemma, Jeffrey, Wendy, Kevin, Erica and Lisa.

"Kevie" as he was affectionately called by his family and loved ones received his early education in Nassau, Bahamas and he also attended Freeport High School in Grand Bahama. Kevin later attended Prospect Hall College in Florida.

As a young adult, Kevin met Ms. Roseline Delva while the two were working in Freeport, Grand Bahama. They became fast friends and over time the two fell in love with each other.  On one fateful day, Kevin proposed to Rose at her parents' home and she happily accepted. Kevin married the love of his life Ms. Roseline Delva, they married at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church on Robinson Road where they were surrounded by family and friends. Afterwards the young couple decided to move to the United States of America and eventually settled in South Daytona, Florida.

Kevin was an industrious man, who strived to provide for his family. During his lifetime Kevin worked a variety of jobs but it was with Crane Cams Automotive where he spent over 30 years working as an Electrical Engineer and machinist.  Kevin was a hard working, diligent thoughtful man who took pride in the work that he did. Kevin was meticulous about the quality of the work which he produced. His work was of such high quality and standard that he was considered the best of the best in his profession. So much so that many race car drivers specifically requested to have Kevin and only Kevin design and create the parts needed for their race car engine. Kevin worked with Dale Earnhart Sr. and Jr., Jeff Gordon, Richard Petty and numerous others. With his hard work, ability and precision Kevin produced parts that assisted in providing many legends with the ability to win prestigious races such as the Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500 amongst others as well.

Kevin was a gifted draftsman who was able to look at any automotive part and make improvements on it. In his field of automotives, Kevin created an invented many auto parts for race cars. He then patented them before selling them to his company. Kevin not only invented and created automotive parts, but he also invented a new type of lock. He then patented the lock and sold it to Masterlock, an American company that develops padlocks, combination locks, safes and related security products. Kevin was always drafting and thinking about how to improve a product or his next great invention. In his mid 50's Kevin decided to go back to school and he received his IT (Internet Technology) Certifications in Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) , CompTIA A+ Technician , Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).

Kevin was a quiet and humble man who loved his wife and enjoyed simple pleasures. There was nothing more that he enjoyed than spending time at home with wife and children, listening to music and cooking. He had a passion for the water and an affinity for fishing. Kevin made it a point to fish at least three to four times a week. Whether it was by boat, pier or just off the beach, one would always find Kevin with a fishing pole in his hand. You can take the boy from the Island but you could never take the island out of the boy. Kevin taught his children to catch fish, by line, fishing poles but also by hand. He took pride in shrimping, fishing and crabbing. Kevin was also a great cook, a trait which received from his father, Mr. Vernon Wilkinson. Kevin enjoyed cooking and preparing fresh meals from the sea.  Kevin loved his wife, children and his family. Even though he lived the majority of his life in the US, he made it a point to visit his family in The Bahamas that he loved so much. Each time he returned to The Bahamas he was greeted with open arms and with much love. He enjoyed Junkanoo and missed home greatly. He planned to retire to a Family Island someday with his wife and spend the rest of his days fishing.

In 2017, Crane Cams decided to relocate to Tennessee and all staff was given the option to stay or go. Kevin decided to stay in Florida with his wife and did not relocate. South Daytona was where Kevin had raised his children and had spend over 35 years building a life. Kevin was comfortable and close to the Bahamas; which was exactly where he wanted to be until he retired. It was during this time that he became thoughtful about the future but alas he marched on and thought, "this too shall pass".

On Monday, March 12 th 2018 Kevin had the day off and of course, he spent the morning fishing. When he came home he multi-tasked as he usually did, doing a multitude things at one time. The last communication Kevin had was with his loving wife; telling her about the fish that he had caught that day and how he was going to prepare it for dinner for the both of them He even took a picture and sent it to his wife. It was with great shock and sadness that we now know that Kevin never got that opportunity because in an instant, God had called him home. In a blink of an eye, everything ceased and Kevin went to on to Glory to be with his Heavenly Father.
