IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjean
Jones
August 19, 1937 – January 5, 2023
Marjean Lee (Miner) Jones, 85, of Daytona Beach entered into eternal rest on January 5, 2023. She was born on August 19, 1937 in Rochester, PA, the daughter of the late Odger and Monalea (Ullom) Miner. She was a graduate of Hopewell High School in Aliquippa, PA and Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA.
On April 14, 1962, Marjean married Gordon Sykes Jones. They enjoyed 51 years together until his passing in 2014. She was a longtime, cherished elementary school teacher in the Hopewell School District. Together she and Gordon toured the globe, and she used their travel photographs as classroom tools. They were in Hong Kong the day it was announced that the city would be transferred to Chinese control and in Rome when the unexpected death of Pope Paul VI shut down the city. Upon retirement in 1993, they moved to Port Orange and later Daytona in pursuit of playing golf year-round. She was an active member of the Pelican Bay Golf Club and the Port Orange Presbyterian Church, and in Aliquippa the Beaver Lakes Country Club and Ohio United Presbyterian Church.
All who knew Marjean loved her. She delighted in bringing people together be it holiday gatherings at her home, dinner outings with friends, or hosting her bridge club. She enjoyed going to the symphony and volunteering at her church. She lavished much love and attention on her greatest passion of all, their nieces and nephews: Mark, Scott, Eric, David and Matthew Miner; Lesley Shumard; Laura Treece; Heather Dandy; Jeffrey Duda; Barbara Tarzy; Rebecca DePersia; Amy Dyg; Richard, Kenneth, and Christopher Jones; and the late Karen Barth. All were treated as her own children. This included many beach vacations on the Jersey shore mixing both sides of their family and graciously hosting many get-togethers at their home. "When are you coming to see me?" was one of her favorite questions. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
Marjean is survived by one brother, Donald W. Miner and her cousin, Sheryl Salakas. In addition to her beloved husband, parents and niece, she is eternally reunited with brothers O. Wayne Miner and Richard D. Miner.
