Marlene Spake Madewell, 72, passed away peacefully at her home on March 16, 2014. A gathering will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 3:00 P.M to 4:00 P.M at Cardwell Baggett and Summers Funeral Home, 3571 S. Ridgewood Ave, Port Orange, FL 32129. A memorial service will begin at 4:00 P.M. Marlene was born in Augusta, Georgia in 1942 and just when she was 3 weeks old, her family moved to Florida where she remained the rest of her life. In the 1970's Marlene was very active in Port Orange little league baseball. In 1977 she began her career with Volusia and Flagler County Schools in the food service department. In 1990 she relocated to Flagler County as a manager until her retirement in 1998. She was very passionate about the Florida Gators, fishing, and hunting with her family. Above all, her most prized possession was her family. Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, Mason and Pearl Spake and daughter Kathy Denise Madewell. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, Burt Madewell; children, F. Burt (Terri) Madewell Jr., of Edgewater, Darryl R. (Jennifer) Madewell of Deltona, Amber (Alex) Madewell Deanzo of Cedar Key; 3 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marlene's name to the Salvation Army, 416 W Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32804.
