IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Gene
Thompson
October 3, 1949 – August 6, 2024
Michael Gene Thompson, age 74, of Daytona Beach, FL passed away on August 6, 2024 at Halifax Hospice after a long battle with his diminishing health. Michael was born on October 03, 1949 to the late Gene Thompson and Patricia Woodward in Portsmouth Ohio and grew up in Doylestown, Ohio. In 1991, Michael professed his faith and was baptized at the Trinity Church of Christ in Wadsworth, Ohio. In 2002, Michael was able to live out his dream of moving to Daytona Beach after retiring. He proudly packed up all his belongings which also included his Harley-Davidson and made his way to Daytona Beach to be near the ocean.
During his younger years, Mike enjoyed building race cars with his Dad along with going to the drag races. Michael also attended concerts at the Blossom Music Center and at the Cleveland Auditorium and he was able to save each if not every ticket and had quite the collection. He almost always listened to a variety of music genres and a couple of his favorite bands/singers were the Rolling Stones and Rod Stuart. He also enjoyed attending Daytona Bike Week along with NASCAR races in Daytona and other surrounding tracks every chance he had with his little brother Brian.
Michael had moved to Wadsworth, OH where he worked with Realty One and he later graduated from Akron University and then opened his own realty agency called Great Oaks Realty. Michael was motivated his entire life and even opened the T-Bar and Grill in Wadsworth which he enjoyed as his hobby and passion and made many friends. He was a very caring, devoted man who loved his family dearly. He was truly a very charming gentleman and will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
He was the eldest of 5 siblings and leaves behind his sister, Janine and husband Patrick Bourque, His brother, Brian and wife Raquel Thompson and his sister Debra Sue Thompson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews which include his nephew Patrick Bourque with Erin Brennen and niece Katie and husband Preston Montalvo. Michael was preceded in death by his brother Randy Steven Thompson, mom Patricia Woodward, dad Gene Thompson and bonus-mom Beverly Thompson.
Mike put up a fierce fight with his medical issues over the past 30 years and although our hearts are shattered, Mike is now at peace and there is no more pain and suffering.
Many thanks to our friend, Teresa Broxton for helping us take care of Mike's needs and for being our eyes and ears since we did not live nearby.
A celebration of life will be in March 2025 and his ashes will be scattered in the ocean for the sea was his happy place.
