October 10, 1945 – August 14, 2022
Michael Travis Thompson , 76, a longtime resident of Port Orange, FL, passed away peacefully on August 14th, 2022, in Pensacola, FL. He was born in Toler, Kentucky on October 10th, 1945, the son of Albert and Gladys Thompson.
After graduating from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Michael joined the United States Air Force, he served 4 years during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant from the Air Force he returned to the Daytona Beach area where he was hired at Tommy's Pancake House where he met the love of his life, Linda Sue Maynard. They soon married.
They celebrated 29 years of marriage before her passing on November 23rd, 1999. Michael retired from Volusia County Branch Jail as a Corrections Officer in 2005.
In his retirement Michael loved spending time with his friends and family. He was an avid collector of clocks. He took great pride in his home, enjoyed gardening, and played piano.
He is survived by his children; Michelle Heath (Steve Lilly), Kimberly Heath (Wayne Lewis), Tommy (Sherry) Thompson; siblings Haskell, Sue, Curtis, Dewie, Debra, Tommy and Sissy; grandchildren; Travis Walker, Shane Walker, Audra (Jared) Blanche, Rebecca (Brett) Austin, Stephanie Thompson, Kristin Christmas, Phillip (Kaley) Thompson, Eirene (David) Giraldo, Amber Free, and Carson Free; ten great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert & Gladys Thompson, his loving wife, Linda Thompson, daughter, Jolyn Thompson, and siblings Jimmy, Janet, Eddie, and Patrick.
Mike loved his family and was a great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on September 2nd, 2022 at Cardwell, Baggett & Summers Funeral Home, located at 301 Big Tree Rd. in South Daytona, Florida.
