Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Middleton Swale, 91, passed away suddenly on July 14 at her home of 52 years in South Daytona. Born in Chicago on June 15, 1926, Millie was the daughter of Paul and Marie Stevens.
In 1946 she moved to Daytona Beach where she married C.V. "Boots" Middleton and had two daughters. She was an advocate for helping others and a founding member of Halifax Habitat for Humanity and the Daytona Beach Drive-In Church. An active member of the Ormond Beach First Christian Church, Millie was named Valiant Women of the Year by Church Women United in 1986. She was a Daytona International Speedway employee for 35 years.
After Boots passed away in 2003, Millie married Bill Swale in 2010. Friends and family knew Millie as an energetic social butterfly who continued to host family gatherings and present Bibles to new homeowners at Habitat for Humanity dedications. Her passions included dancing, traveling, cooking and sewing. She was an award-winning poet.
Millie is preceded in death by her parents and brothers John, Paul and Karl Stevens. She is survived by her two daughters Sandy Turco and Sondra Irvine; grandchildren Darren, David and Douglas Turco, Glenn and Karen Nall; great-grandchildren Julia, Lauren, Brook, Trevor, Brody, Cody and David; nephews John Jr, Paul Jr, Paul, and Karl Jr.; nieces Diane, Laura, Lynel, Daryl and Andrea; and local relatives great-nieces Corrina and Amber and great-great nephew Andrew.
Visitation will be from 5-8pm Wed. and a funeral service will be held at 9am Thurs., at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona Beach, 1423 Belleview Ave. Interment at Daytona Memorial Park will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Volusia.
