Orville (Tony) Wheaton passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Port Orange, FL on September 1, 2021 at the age of 96. He was born on May 31, 1925 to Anton and Florence (Kranz) Wheaton in Fieldon, Illinois. He was educated in Jerseyville, IL and graduated from Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL.
He served his country for two years in the Army during the Korean War.
He married Marilyn Rudolphi in 1956 at Wendelin, IL. In 1958 they moved to Decatur, IL where he was employed as Secretary-Treasurer by a Bryant Air Conditioner distributor for 12 years. In 1970 he was transferred to Syracuse, New York and was Branch Manager of the Bryant-Carrier office. In 1985 he retired and two years later moved to Port Orange, FL and enjoyed 34 years of sunshine and relaxation. He and Marilyn enjoyed traveling with the PORT Travel Club and the many trips they took and friends they met.
Tony was a faithful member of the Church of Epiphany in Port Orange where he was a Eucharistic Minister. He volunteered at the Food Pantry at the church for many years and was active in the Social Activities at the church. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and an Honorary Member of the Port Orange Elks Lodge 2723.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn Wheaton, daughter Lisa Schimp of Port Orange, son Gary Wheaton (Stephanie) of Jeffersonville, New York. Five grandchildren, Nicole Wheaton, Katie Boehner, Tiffany Thompson, Ruby Wheaton, Lillie Wheaton, great grandchildren Anthony Dodd, Xander Anderson and Maddox Anderson. He is also survived by niece Marcella Schneider (Pat) and nephew Bill Wiist (Harriete). He was predeceased by his parents and sister Virginia Wiist Hubbard.
A visitation for Tony will held on Monday, October 18 from 10:00-11:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at the Church of Epiphany, 201 Lafayette St, Port Orange, FL 32127. Inurnment will follow the service at Woodland Cemetery, 399 Orange Ave, Port Orange, FL 32127.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Church of Epiphany or Halifax Hospice, 3800 Woodbrier Trail, Port Orange, FL, 32127 in his memory. The care of Orville A. Wheaton has been entrusted to Cardwell, Baggett & Summers Funeral Home. Condolences for the family can be shared on the online guestbook at www.cardwellfuneral.com .
