Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Allen, 78, of South Daytona, FL died May 5, 2021 after contracting COVID-19 in the Assisted Living home where she resided.

She was born Patricia Marie Schmidt on 17 December 1942 in Cortland, New York to the late Robert and Hannah (Huttleston) Schmidt and was known for her sarcastic wit. If she didn't like you, you didn't exist – if she did, you were a target.

Following graduation from McGraw Central High School she spent 28 years as an Army wife, moving from place to place. She loved to talk about living on Okinawa and her three separate stints in Germany. She also took pleasure in telling people that all three of her children had served in the Army and her granddaughter is still a Marine. She was a gifted baker, avid crafter, and determined crossword enthusiast until Alzheimer's made those pursuits impossible.

"Miss Pat" retired from Silver Sands Middle School where she worked in Food Services but had always been active in her many communities. She helped care for Vietnamese children during Operation Babylift and was a long-standing member of the Port Orange Eagles 4089 Auxiliary where she served as an officer for more than 25 years, raising money for local charities.

She is survived by her daughter Melody (Sam) McBeth of Scotland, PA, 2 sons, Paul Allen of South Daytona, and Donald Allen of Hopewell, VA, 4 grandchildren: Sean (Michelle) McBeth, Tammy (Michael) Armstrong, Christopher "CJ" (Melanie) Allen, Tessa (Elizabeth Lutje) Allen and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Roberta "Bobbi" Crawford of Concord, NC, Gary (Rita) Schmidt, Greg Schmidt, both of McGraw, NY, and two half-brothers, Tim and Brian Schmidt. Her husband Clifford Allen and brother Stanley Schmidt predeceased her.

No public services are planned. A family-only gathering may take place later for the interment of her cremains in New York. However, those who wish may leave condolences for the family here on our website.

Memorial contributions may be given to Camp Boggy Creek at boggycreek.org
