A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday April 11, 2015 in The Chapel at Cardwell Baggett & Summers Funeral Home. Peter James Fitzsimmons, 78, of Port Orange, passed away on April 6, 2015 at his residence. Peter was born on May 7, 1936 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Peter Bernard and Marian Stephens Fitzsimmons. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the began his career as a Detective for the Toms River Police Department, New Jersey retiring in 1991 after 26 years of devoted service. He was a Charter member and First President of the New Jersey Vehicle Theft Investigators, the International Association of Automobile Theft Investigators the York County (PA) Racing Association and of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. He enjoyed auto racing and the beach. He also volunteered for the Toms River Little League where he served on the Board of Directors in New Jersey. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Carol, whom he married on June 2, 1963. Two sons, Peter T. and daughter-in-law, Toni of Wylie, TX and Paul M. of Mount Joy, PA; an adopted daughter, Barb Dunmire of Manheim, PA; a sister, Susan Puglisi of Toms River, NJ; Eleven Grandchildren; Three Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
