IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter V.
Ryan
March 20, 1929 – March 3, 2025
Peter V. Ryan of Tequesta and Port Orange Florida passed away surrounded by family on March 3, 2025 , just three weeks shy of his 96th Birthday. This is from a man who, when asked a question by his son Tom, "Hey Dad, how old do you think you'll live to be?" responded "Oh, 88." And back in the 1960's, that made all us kids laugh.
Peter was born in Queens, NY on March 20, 1929 to Peter V. Ryan, Sr. and Marie Evelyn (Devins). He enlisted in the US Marine Corps after WWII and fought in the Korean Conflict. After his Marine discharge, he joined the FDNY moved his young family to Great Neck. He sometimes worked two jobs and studied hard to earn the rank of Captain. He retired and in 1987, eventually moved to Tequesta Florida. Peter taught himself to sail, planted the best backyard garden in Great Neck, loved cooking those delicious Fire Department recipes, ran the NYC Marathon twice, and was an avid golfer until his eyesight started failing him.
Peter is survived by his brother Richard Ryan (Barbara), Westport, Ct, His children, Eileen Gaines (Ken) of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Tom Ryan (Jill), Massapequa, N.Y., Sheila Askham (Robin), Arvada, Co., Kathleen Ryan Riekkinen, Smithtown, NY, and Trish Clarke (Thomas), Massapequa, NY. Grandchildren Kevin (Abbie) Ryan, Chris Ryan (Andrew), Charlie Askham, Christine Kamin (David), Bailey and Elizabeth Riekkinen , Matthew and Will Clarke, and Great grandsons, Ryan, Austin, & Micah.
He is preceded in death by parents and his sister, Mary Roberta Lane, his second wife, Theresa Hickey Ryan (d. 2005), his first wife, Kitty Phillips Ryan (d. 2020) and his son-in-law, Tomi Riekkinen (d. 2022) and other relatives and loved ones including Heather Hall and Karen Plansker Bromwell.
Following cremation, Peter will be interred in the New York City area.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Tunnel to Towers Foundation in his name would be appreciated.
