Redwood Folger Wharton 73, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, at the home of his son, Larry Wharton. Folger was a life-long resident of Daytona Beach and a graduate of Seabreeze High School. Folger was one of those rare brilliant persons whose mathematical abilities and genius for deciphering the most complex of puzzles was legendary to those who knew him. He was also a master chess player, usually overcoming the most skilled of opponents. As an electrical engineering student at the University of Florida, Folger often set the curve, astounding both his professors and his fellow students. He also loved fishing and spent a number of years in the family business at Inlet Harbor. In addition to his son, Larry, survivors include a daughter, Ashleigh Lynch, Port Orange; his mother, Miriam Buschman of Ormond Beach; and his sister, Catherine Wharton, Ormond Beach. Folger was predeceased by his father, William Redwood Wharton, founder of Inlet Harbor Fishing Camp; a sister, Ruth "Libby" Wharton; and his brother, Lawrence Wharton. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Cardwell, Baggett and Summers Funeral Home, 3571 Ridgewood Ave Port Orange.
