Richard P. Motter, age 89, of Port Orange, passed into the arms of Jesus on April 11, 2023 at Advent Health, Daytona with his wife Mary by his side.
Mr. Motter was born October 6,1933 to Paul and Almeida (Smith) Motter at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio.
Following graduation from Lincoln High School in 1951. Richard joined the Navy February 1952 and served active duty during the Korean War, in the Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) being honorably discharged in January 1956. He then served in the Reserves from January 1956 through February 1960. He also attended Akron University, where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Richard and Mary (Ramsay) Motter were married August 15, 2006 in Key West, Florida and made their home in Knoxville, Tennessee. Moving to Port Orange, Florida in March 2008, he became employed by Walt Disney World in Engineering Services as an Attraction Mechanic. He had just celebrated 15 years with EPCOT.
Mr. Motter was preceded in death by his parents, a brother David, granddaughter Jessica Hoopingarner (in infancy. and recently a grandson Greg Hoopingarner.
He is survived by his wife Mary (Ramsay) Motter of Port Orange, his son Bill (Kathy) Motter, daughter Sharon Hoopingarner, grandson Paul and granddaughter Beth, three great grandchildren and Sarah (Sally) Motter, the mother of his children, all of the Canton Ohio area.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Spruce Creek Baptist Church, Taylor Road, Port Orange, on Saturday May 27th. at 2:00 p.m. with Rev.. Mark Malcolm officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
