Obituary

Robert Edwin Wilson, Jr., of Port Orange, Florida, formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 26, 2025. Born on January 17, 1933, to Dr. Ruth Weinrich Emerson and Dr. Robert Edwin Wilson, Sr., Robert lived a life defined by God, service, family, dedication, laughter, and love.

A proud veteran, Robert served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War—an experience that shaped his patriotism and his deep respect for the freedoms he held dear. Following his military service, he attended Tulane University before beginning a successful career as a salesman for Johnson & Johnson. His natural ease with people, strong work ethic, and warm personality made him a perfect fit for the role. He later continued his education at Stetson University, preparing for his lifelong commitment to teaching, coaching, and inspiring young people.

Robert began his career as an educator and coach, shaping generations of students at Mainland Junior High School and Seabreeze and Spruce Creek High Schools. On the athletic field, he coached football and baseball with passion, fairness, and an innate ability to bring out the best in his players. His love for sports and mentorship continued into his roles as a school administrator at Spruce Creek, DeLand, and New Smyrna High Schools, as well as Nova Southeastern University, where he helped build strong educational communities grounded in opportunity, respect, and compassion.

Robert's work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond the school year. During the summer, he ran a popular beach concession stand known as "Judy's Float Stand," where locals and vacationers alike could rent umbrellas, beach chairs, floats, and cabanas.

Outside of the classroom and administrative offices, Robert's greatest joy was found with the people he loved. A devoted husband to Sandra L. Wilson, he cherished their years of adventure, especially tailgating at Florida Gators games in their RV, surrounded by friends, family, and the excitement of game day. He was a proud and lifelong Gator fan.

Robert treasured time spent fishing and boating with his friends and family, passing down stories, laughter, and the simple joy of being on the water. He was an animal lover through and through, sharing his life with his beloved dogs Louie and Taz, and his cats Snuggles and Tigger.

A fan of country music, Robert loved playing the guitar—often filling the room with familiar melodies and heartfelt strumming that reflected his warm spirit. A man blessed with a sharp wit and impeccable comedic timing, Robert had a smile that lit up every room he entered. Ever the adventurer, he embraced new experiences—most memorably parasailing in Mexico—with the same fearless spirit that defined his life.

A patriot, educator, coach, mentor, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend—Robert's legacy lives on in the many lives he touched. His influence is lasting, his memory cherished, and his spirit carried forward in the stories shared by those who loved and admired him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
