Obituary

Ronald "Ron" Glenn Martin, 74, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 3, at AdventHealth in Daytona Beach. A celebration of his life will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Blake Memorial Baptist Church, 134 N. Euclid Ave., Lake Helen.

Ron was born on Jan. 8, 1948, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Glenn Dale Martin and Anne Fiske Martin. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette, and survived by his twin brother Don, younger brother, Dale, half-brother Darin, sons, Steve, Sean and Scott, and daughter, Shelley Szafraniec. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Ron grew up in Ingram and Moon Run, Pennsylvania, and then moved to and attended high school in Chattanooga, Tennessee. While attending high school, he participated in JROTC. Ron moved to South Daytona, Florida, in 1964 with his dad and brother, Don. His dad worked as an electrician at Cape Canaveral Space Center, and Ron worked odd jobs during the day while attending night school at Mainland High School. Ron joined the Local 517, Common Laborers Union on Second Avenue in Daytona Beach and worked primarily as a mason tender building condos and swimming pools on the beachside, the Daytona Beach News-Journal on Sixth Street and buildings on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Daytona Beach campus.

In 1965, Ron's dad opened Martin's Auto Salvage in South Daytona, and Ron helped his dad at night and on weekends to establish the business while working as an apprentice with Charlie Williams, who owned a small air conditioning company, which would later become FLAIR Air Conditioning. Ron worked hard and learned quickly, and in 1977 he became one of the three owners of FLAIR Air Conditioning, where he would remain as a state certified contractor and business owner until his death.

While raising his children, and through his work at FLAIR Air Conditioning and in the community, Ron always embodied fairness, integrity and kindness. He was known for his selfless treatment of others and a strong work ethic.

Visitation will precede Ron's services at 8:30 a.m. Following his services at 9 a.m. at Blake Memorial Baptist Church, there will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Daytona Memorial Park, 1425 Bellevue Ave., in Daytona Beach. After the graveside service, the family is hosting a barbecue in Ron's honor at 2570 Tribble Drive, Port Orange.
