Roy M. Kohl passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2015. He was born in Staten Island, New York on January 11, 1931. He was a licensed electrician and a proud member of the IBEW. In 1977, he and his beloved wife, Joan, relocated to Daytona Beach after purchasing a motel. Roy embarked on another career in law enforcement and was a member of the Daytona Beach Shores Police Department and the Volusia County Sherriff's Office. Upon retiring he traveled extensively with his wife as a member of the Good Sam's Club. He also enjoyed going to the YMCA, playing horseshoes and going to baseball games at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Roy loved football and cheering on his favorite college team at the University of Central Florida. Roy's favorite passion was being a member of the "Eagles Club" where he enjoyed many fun evenings socializing and dancing with his companion of seven years Gladys Largent. Roy is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Joan Kohl. He is survived by his three daughters, Karen Blanchette (Richard), Susan Miller (Stephen) and Mary Kohl; three beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Nunn, Bradley Miller and Lauren Miller; and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Cardwell Baggett and Summers Funeral Home on at 5 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2015 with The Rev. Jim Smith officiating.
