Ruth I. Baker Douffas went home to be with her Savior, in the arms of
the angels, on December 26, 2012. A celebration of her life will be conducted on Saturday,
December 29, 2012, 3pm at the Cardwell funeral home. Visitation will also be on Saturday from
1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Funeral home. She was met at the pearly gates by her
Husband Gust John Douffas of 53 years, her parents, one son-in law,
Ronald Naedele and one grandson, Justin Collins, along with all of her
7 brothers and sisters and many other relatives. Ruth was born in
Berea, Kentucky on February 28, 1924.
Ruth retired from the U.S. Federal Government and moved to Daytona
Beach, Florida in 1979. While with the Treasury Department Ruth
received a 5 gallon donation pin from the American Red Cross. Ruth
traveled during her civil service career, met with many celebrities
while supporting the U.S. Savings Bond initiative and was a guest at
the white house with numerous U.S. Presidents. Ruth has worked for
the Lord all of her life . She was a Sunday School teacher for 44 years
and a deaconess at First Christian Church of Capital Heights in
Maryland. Ruth served as President of the Christian Women's
Fellowship at South Daytona Christian Church and was lovingly known as
'The General'. After the passing of her husband in 1995, Ruth served
as the Leader of the Singles over Sixty group. Ruth served as a Camp
Fire Girl Leader in Prince Georges County, Maryland and other
volunteer services included being a 'pink lady' at Ormond Memorial
Hospital, Director of Vacation Bible School, Secretary of the
Ridgecrest Apartment Association, and Assistant to her daughter Ann at
Daytona Beach Community College.
Ruth was a long time resident of Holly Hill, Florida and was recently
a resident of Grace Manor Assisted Living Memory Care. Ruth was
lovingly known as 'Ge' to her grandchildren, their friends and all
the many other children Ge mentored.
Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Ann Hill Palmieri , (Frank
Palmieri) of South Daytona Florida, Violet Douffas Collins (Bob
Collins) of Apollo Beach, Florida and Lovada Douffas Anderson (Mark
Anderson) of Boyce, Virginia, her three grandchildren, RonnAnn Naedele
Risha (Ernie Risha) of Swedesboro, NJ , Jason Collins, of Port
Orange, Florida and Christina Baxter (Rick Baxter) of Alliance, Ohio
and her three great grandchildren, Devin Collins of Port Orange
Florida and , Mitchell and Madison Ruth Baxter of Alliance Ohio.
