Ruth Fox Wood, 88 of Port Orange, Florida passed away to be with the Lord on January 4, 2015. Ruth was born in Mineola, NY on July 1, 1926. She lived in many places in Florida including Key Biscayne, Pompano Beach, Boca Raton, St. Petersburg, and Port Orange. She attended Friends Academy in Locust Valley, NY, Saint Petersburg Junior College, Florida State University, and graduated from Florida Atlantic University. She married Daniel S Wood III in 1951. Ruth was an amazing, talented, and dedicated elementary school educator who taught at Gulf Stream Academy in Delray Beach, Adirondack Southern Academy in St. Petersburg, and Bay Point Elementary School in St. Petersburg, FL. She continued her teaching after her retirement in 1992 by volunteering for Pinellas County and Volusia County Schools. A devout Episcopalian, she loved her faith, church, family and friends very much. She was a very active member and volunteer of Grace Episcopal Church and the YMCA of Port Orange, FL. A feisty, but extremely kind, loving, caring, giving and extremely bright New Yorker that loved her family, friends and the children she taught throughout the years. She traveled the world and loved going to UF Gator Football games with her family. She is survived by her daughters Michele Cloudman of Port Orange, Laurie Wood of West Palm Beach, Cindy Batten of Port Orange, and son, Daniel S. Wood IV,"Chip" of Seminole, FL ; grandchildren Christopher Cloudman, Jennifer Malone Byrn, Melissa Cloudman Tilton, Daniel Connor Wood, and 5 great children, Emily, Jack, Isobel, Mason and June. A Funeral Service and Reception for Ruth will be held on Saturday, January 10th, at 1:00pm at Grace Episcopal Church, 4110 South Ridgewood Avenue, Port Orange, FL 32127. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to Grace Episcopal Church or the YMCA of Port Orange. Condolences may be shared with the family through this online guestbook.
