Obituary

Salvatore (Sal) Zuccarelli, 89, passed away on July 14, 2015. He was born on March 12, 1926 in Staten Island, NY to Mary (Pessina) and Vincenzo Zuccarelli. He attended Curtis High School and then went to work for B&O Railroad until March 1944 when he enlisted in the US Navy. Sal served as a Radioman & Gunner, 2nd Class Petty Officer during World War II and until his discharge on May 31, 1946. He returned to the B&O Railroad but left in 1952 for New York Telephone. In 1952, he married Dorothy Comerford of SI with whom he had two daughters, Donna and Sandra Zuccarelli. By 1978, he was a Supervisor at NY Telephone and transferred to Southern Bell in Port Orange, FL in July of that year. On July 29, 1978, Sal married Kathleen (Kitty) Reilly and they relocated to Port Orange where he lived until his death. Being in the Drum Corps and his years in the Navy were among his fondest memories. Playing cards with his poker buddies and card and board games with his family and friends were favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed fishing and casino gambling. He belonged to the CWA Union-Local 3102, was a lifetime member of the VFW and Telephone Pioneers of America Preceding him in death were his parents, Mary and Vincenzo Zuccarelli, his brothers Dominic, Daniel, and Pasquale (Pat) and his first wife, Dorothy Comerford. Surviving him are his wife, Kitty Reilly, his daughters, Donna Zuccarelli, Inverness, FL, Sandra Zuccarelli, Johnsonville, NY, stepdaughters, Cheryl Reilly, N. Las Vegas, NV and Kim Karr, Emporia, KS and his sister, Terry Gaeta, Arizona. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica Gould, Troy NY, Sarah Wasserbach, Albany, NY, Timothy Chambers, Michigan, step-grandchildren Jennifer, Elizabeth and Michael Karr of Kansas, two great-grandchildren, Lauren & Jack Wasserbach, Albany, NY and a niece and several nephews. As per Sal's wishes there will be no memorial service. Memorial donations may be made in Sal's name to Halifax Health Hospice of Port Orange, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129
