Sylvia Cohen Shemeley was born April 7, 1925 in Waterbury CT to Isaac Cohen and Annie Rubenstein. She was raised in Pompano, FL with her sisters Miriam (married Manual Serkin -both dec.) and Vivian (married Harold Beck - both dec.), where she helped in her family retail business. She received a Masters in Education from the University of Miami and taught Remedial English for many years at the Nautilus School on Miami Beach. Her life was full with her many passions - travel, tennis, theater, symphony, and she especially enjoyed scheduling quality time with each of her nephews and niece. She lived a very full and passionate life. Upon retirement, she treated herself to an extended trip to the South Pacific, where she met the Love of her Life, Edward Shemeley, of Cherry Hill, NJ. They were married(her first)
four months later
, and continued to honeymoon most of the next 27 years. During that time, they traveled extensively, while living in Miami Beach, Port Orange, Daytona Beach, and St Augustine.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; nephews, Howard Serkin, Steven(MaryAnn) Serkin, Stuart(Jeff) Serkin, Stanley(Ronnie) Beck); niece, Lilian(Dan) Kamis); grandnieces/nephews, greatgrandnieces/nephews; step
