William John Gratton, 89, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2014. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Cardwell, Baggett and Summers Funeral Home, 3571 S. Ridgewood Ave, Port Orange, FL 32129. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Cardwell, Baggett and Summers with interment to follow at Volusia Memorial Park. William was born in 1925 in Troy, New York and as a child he had a fascination with trains. William enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII working with ammunition ordinance. He started his career as a firemen working on the railroad for New York Central, Washington Terminal, and Penn Central. Later he worked for the United States Post office as a building engineer. William had a love for steam engines, music, and collecting records from the 40's and 50's, he enjoyed pulling pranks on his family and friends, and a love for animals. Those left to cherish William's memory are his loving wife of 59 years, Thelma "Sue" Gratton; sons, William Gratton II, wife Diana; Kim Gratton, wife Patricia; grandchildren, William John Gratton III, Heather Cox, Shaun Gratton, Bradley Gratton; great-grandchildren, Josh Cox, Jason Cox, Haley Gratton.
