William C. Luther "Bill", 92, passed away on September 25, 2014 at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, FL. Bill graduated from high school in Oelwein, Iowa and from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He taught high school and coached both boys and girls basketball teams in McGregor, Iowa; taking both teams to State Tournaments. His teaching and coaching boys basketball continued in Cherokee, Iowa and again he took teams to state conferences. In 1955 Bill and his wife LaVonne moved back to McGregor, Iowa where he successfully ran hotel, motel, restaurant, pub and gift shop businesses. In 1967 Bill and family moved to Florida where he started a grant funded Electronics Training Project for the Florida Division of Blind Services. Due to his success in placing blind individuals in competitive employment, Bill was chosen to lead placement activities for the Division of Blind Services. He was selected to work with a team in Washington DC to write a guide outlining placement procedures for blind participants. Bill received numerous awards for his work with the blind. In 1984 he returned to McGregor, Iowa to open a gift shop. Finally Bill built a seasonal log cabin in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and in the winter months had a condo in Daytona Beach Shores. He enjoyed automobiles and playing cards, billiards and golf. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Fred; mother, Grace; three brothers, Howard, Laverne and Fred; and by his granddaughter, Tanya Pumillo. He is survived by his wife LaVonne, son Greg (Cindy), grandson Aaron (Jessica), and great grandsons Anthony and Aidan. Private services will be held.
