Obituary

William (Bill) Charles Piper, of Port Orange Florida passed away peacefully at home on May 8,2026 at the age of 82, surrounded by his wife and children. William was born in Miami, Florida on February 3,1944 to Walter August Piper and Angela Maude Piper (Castelli). He graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1962 and attended Kemper Military College and Miami Dade Community College. William’s world revolved around his love of food and cooking for family, friends, volunteer organizations, and the less fortunate due to his many years in the restaurant industry.

William’s motto was “Right is Right”. He lived by that motto and was a champion of Honor, Courage, Integrity, and Compassion. His prayer life always included the “born and unborn”. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. A couple of years ago, William experienced his Cursillo journey, along with his devoted wife Mary.

Through all the illnesses he faced, William founded the Port Orange Pop Warner Program, initially sponsored by the Knights of Columbus council 8086. He devoted much of his life helping people in need, volunteering in a leadership role serving the homeless at Epiphany Catholic Church, Eucharistic Minister, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus 7052, District Deputy, Warden, Trustee and Purser. William was also Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, President Parent Teacher Association at Basilica School of St. Paul, Trustee of Knights of Columbus Council 8086, Purser of Assembly 2794, Color Corps Sir Knight, Our Lady of Hope Outreach, Loaves and Fishes, initiator of Our Lady of Hope monthly food distribution (Food Drop), founder “Off the Streets” ministry to help single moms, Youth Group leader at Church of St. Jude and St. William Catholic Church, Mark’s Hope House, Port Orange and Coral Gables Elks, volunteered in Volusia County Schools, Spruce Creek High School Band Parent Association, Jazz Fest volunteer, and founded the Quarterback Club at Spruce Creek High School.

William is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Piper (Onorato),with whom he shared 51 wonderful years of marriage; his children, David Piper, Kimberly Rathbun, William Piper Jr, Nicole Creedy, and Brianna Hyde; his daughter-in-law, Lori Piper, and Morgan Piper; his son-in-laws, Michael Rathbun, Richard Creedy, and Tallon Hyde; his grandchildren,David Piper Jr, Brittany Szwec (Mitchell), Sara & Mary Rathbun, Bentley Piper, Tyler Piper, Todd Gagner, Taylor Piper, Daisy & Violet Hyde; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on May 30, 2026 at 10am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange, FL.
