Winnie Modine Barrett, affectionately known as "Mo," went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the age of 82.

Mo was born in Galveston, TX on May 26, 1944. A resident of the Daytona Beach area since the age of 14, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Maioni, owners and operators of local favorite restaurant Joe & Mary's Grill. She was a 1962 graduate of Mainland High School.

In her professional life, Mo contributed to the United States space and defense programs as a clerical professional with GE. In May 1969, she received GE's Apolloneer Award in recognition of her work supporting the Apollo program, an achievement of which she remained deeply proud. With the birth of her first child in 1970, she left the workforce to raise her family. She returned in the mid-1980s and continued her career with Lockheed Martin, serving in key administrative roles supporting its simulation and training operations, including as executive assistant to Lockheed Martin Information Systems vice president and former Space Shuttle astronaut Robert Crippen. She retired in the mid-1990s.

Mo married her childhood sweetheart, John Barrett, Jr., in 1965. She worked tirelessly alongside John as he became a nationally recognized square dance caller. She kept books, danced, and entertained generations of square dancers through the years at local clubs, state conventions, and the Fontana Village Resort in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, where she danced alongside dancers and callers from around the world. Her infectious smile and kind heart brought joy to all.

At home, Mo was an accomplished cook who also enjoyed knitting and decorating. Her family fondly remembers the comforting sound of her humming in the kitchen as she prepared meals, and the stories and laughter they shared there.

Mo was preceded in death by her loving parents, Joseph Maioni in 1993 and Mary Maioni in 2011; and by her sister, Cecilia Brower in 1972. She is survived by John Barrett, her beloved husband of 61 years; her sister, Anji Brazell (Carl); her son, Kevin Barrett (Sarah); her daughter, Heather Furnival (Mark); and her six grandchildren, Everett, Grace, Faith, Charlotte, Jackson, and Naomi Barrett.

In accordance with Mo’s wishes, the family will not hold a funeral or memorial service. Online condolences are welcome.

Mo was a kind and gentle soul who touched the lives of many and provided constant love and encouragement to her loved ones. She will live forever in our hearts.
