IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Xavier G.
Senatro
February 12, 1928 – February 7, 2022
Xavier G. "Sam" Senatro
was born on February 12, 1928 in Hartford, Connecticut. He died peacefully at his home in Port Orange, Florida, on February 7, 2022.
Sam is survived by his wife of 67 years, Faun "Joyce" Senatro, and eight children: X. Neil (Pam) of Hinton, VA; Edith (Jon) Biro, Port Orange; Timothy, Port Orange; Faun (Tony), Winter Park; Christopher (Rony), Manassas, VA; Patricia, San Antonio, TX; Joseph and Ben, Birmingham, AL. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, a brother, Dominic Senatro, Daytona Beach, FL, and a sister, Irene Gozzo, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael, and two sisters, Lucille and Marie.
Sam grew up in Hartford, and then Bloomfield, CT. Not able to afford toys in his elementary years, he spent playtime with neighborhood boys learning how to box, and considered it great fun. In his retirement years, he still loved to watch a good boxing match on TV. After moving to Bloomfield, he was able to have horses. He loved caring for them and the freedom of being able to ride them through the countryside. And then came cars and more freedom until the Army found him. He was drafted at the beginning of the Korean conflict and served from 1950-1952.
After discharge from the Army, Sam came to Daytona Beach to spend some time with his parents, who had relocated to Florida. He got a "temporary" job with Atlantic Marble and Tile Co., planning to return to CT. Then he met Joyce. Almost 45 years later, after a work accident slowed him down, he retired from tile-setting.
Sam was well liked and respected by all who knew him. His job and personal ethics were admired by anyone who worked with him. His family was his heart and pride, and they are all grateful for having him with them for so many years.
There will be a brief service at the Cape Canaveral Veteran's Cemetery in Mims on March 16 at 1:00. An Open House reception will be held from 3:30 to 5:00 that afternoon at the HOA Clubhouse in SummerTrees, 61 Crooked Pine Rd., Port Orange.
The family deeply appreciates all the prayers and support that has been offered. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Grace Episcopal Church in Port Orange, or Halifax Hospice.
